Re: Pc boards??

Hi,Your question leads me to say "what have you done?" Firstly the main boards are located towards the rear of the Keyboard. The main mother board and amp/jack boards are located from the edge of the keyframe to the back of the keyboard. the only boards located forward are the headphone/pitchbend wheel assy, and the disk drive unit, The other is the keyframe which includes the contacts, aftertouuch strip and the keying processors.
I say what have you done as this type of enquiry comes when some form of substance has been spilt or dropped into the key area, I have just rebuilt a WSA1 which appears to have had some form of sugary drink spilt into it resulting in a lot of sugar crystals everywhere coating all the contact strips and contact boards requiring a very careful clean up. as sugar can react with copper on the boards.
Hope this answers your question, the service manual can be downloaded from the members area.
Regards John.

Re: Pc boards??

Thanks for you quick reply, the reason for my query is this....I have been offered a very cheap 7000 because for some reason most of the keys are broken. And also the casing has seen better days but everything works with a wind midi controller that I have (Yamaha WX5) and the sounds are awesome form the keyboard. So the plan is to
take the innards and put it into a new housing. I don't need the mod wheel or the keyboard assembly, so basically what I am saying is being that all the controls are on the same lift up panel I would hope to mount everything into a new housing less the things mentioned. Would the keyboard midi still work without the keyboard and wheels connected or do you think these items complete the circuit?

Re: Pc boards??

What a great idea for a project, I remember the Yamaha midi wind controller WX5 and it would be interesting to use it to control the KN7000 voices with it, and also using the sequencer as a self contained backing system. Technics did make a few midi units that were based on the organ range but unfortunately they do not have the same sound quality as the KN7000. I am going to recommend you have a word to David Tutt. He is a very experienced engineer and has considerable knowledge of the Technics range,so he may well be able to advise on what will be able to be left out of the build.
Davd's details are :- "[email protected] " tel:- 07759105932
I sure I can say that Dave is our friendly site engineer.
Please keep us posted as to how you get on, I am sure many of the members will be interested in such a project, we have seen KN series converted to play as button accordions so why not as a midi controlled expander.
All the very best regards John Dawson.
